On the 1st of May Grand
Theatre Director Le Shengli and German Consul General Dr.
Wolfgang Roehr officially declared the first German Culture
Week in Shanghai open.
They raised their glasses for two exciting weeks of German
music, delicacies and exhibitions on German architecture at
the Huangpu river.

two fantastic gigs at the Shanghai Concert Hall |

From May 1 to May 14 altogether
eight German orchestras and soloists performed musical masterpieces,
both classic and modern, including two premieres: Heidelberg's
renown Bach Choir performed Händels's Messiah for the first
time in China as well as the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz
under the direction of Frank Strobel played Fritz Lang's "Metropolis".

and delicacies in front of both concert halls |

In front of both concert
halls, the Shanghai Concert Hall and the Shanghai Grand Theatre,
visitors took great interest in food & drinks of German
producers. Altogether 14 companies, including cultural and educational
institutions, participated in a lively tent city. The Bavarian
brass band Eichhofner Dorfmusik played live on stage.

| Exhibitions on German
architecture in both concert halls |

The exhibition
focus of this year's premiere was on German architecture. The
city of Heidelberg presented itself with 34 boards spanning
the years 1000-2000. Frankfurt-based architects KSP&Zimmermann
showed current and finished projects in Germany and China.
Visitors in both concert halls took great interest in historic
and modern building culture made in Germany.
